School of Cultural Heritage

Supported by Chongqing Education Commission and approved by Chongqing Cultural Commission, School of Cultural Heritage was co-built in 2008 by Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences and Chongqing Institute of Culture and Art. It is built in response to the need of the cultural heritage protection of our country and the development of our cultural industry. School of Cultural Heritage of Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences is the only school of cultural heritage of the provincial level in China.

The international high level faculty team of the school is composed of 35 members including 20 full-time teachers who are all high level researchers. 80% of the teachers own doctoral degrees, six professors, nine associate professors and 5 master’s supervisors are in the team. 15 of the distinguished professors of the school are specialists and scholars from University of Perugia (Italy), Peking University, Renmin University, Sichuan University and Sun Yat-Sen University, etc. The school obtains one national-level teaching award, one national-level excellent course, one provincial-level teaching team and one provincial-level resource-sharing course. The textbook edited by our school gained second class prize of Social Science Award of Chongqing Municipality.

The school represents the highest level in the research of intangible cultural heritage in Chongqing, the Chongqing Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center in the School is a key research base of humanities and social sciences and the only research base for intangible cultural heritage of Chongqing. The sociology is the key discipline in “the 13th five-year plan” and “world-class universities and world-class disciplines” in Chongqing. The integral capacity in intangible cultural heritage is among the best in China, it is a major participant of “Collaborative Innovation Center for Cultural Cohesion and National Identity of Ethnic Groups” with Sichuan University taking the lead. The school established “China-Europe Cultural Heritage Center” together with the University of Perugia, its research holds certain influence abroad.

The condition for experiment and practice is excellent. The “Experimental Center for Teaching and Transmitting of Intangible Cultural Heritage”, which is a provincial-level demonstration center for experiment and teaching, includes 18 laboratories, the gross value of the instrument and equipment is over RMB 1.3 million. The 30 experimental bases the School of Cultural Heritage has built, including the research base that was co-built by Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences and Chongqing Sincere Real Estate Group, provide abundant resources for students’ professional practice.

The School of Cultural Heritage owns great international resources. The school established long-term cooperation relationship with the University of Perugia, the two parties have realized the exchange visit between faculty and students. The school has set up Italian language training course, which is held by teachers from the University of Perugia and has the advowson for students to study for a master’s degree in the University of Perugia.

The School of Cultural Heritage has enrolled together with Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and educated independently of master degree candidates in Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2012. There are totally 11 graduates who have been doing professional works in provincial-level cultural management departments and educational departments.
